🎩🌵 Il est des œuvres qui traversent les décennies avec une insolente élégance, telles des étoiles filantes dont la traînée lumineuse ne s’efface jamais. Les Mystères de l’Ouest, cette série hors normes née du génie de Michael Garrison s’imposa à l'époque comme un ovni télévisuel, mi-western, mi-fantasmagorie, mi-espionnage. À la croisée des genres, elle distille ses récits entre poudre noire et gadgets futuristes, sans jamais perdre le sens de l’élégance narrative.
Un duo légendaire aux antipodes et pourtant indissociable
🕶️🚂 Aux commandes de ce train à vapeur somptueusement aménagé, James T. West, l’homme d’action, dompteur de chevaux et de cœurs, et Artemus Gordon, caméléon génial et inventeur visionnaire. Ensemble, ils sillonnent l’Ouest sauvage post-sécession, portant haut les couleurs d’un Secret Service américain encore balbutiant. Leur mission ? Sauver la jeune Amérique d’une horde de conspirateurs, savants fous et généraux félons rêvant d’hégémonie.
Un souffle baroque sur les grandes plaines
📜🔮 Là où le western s’essoufflait à la télévision, Garrison convoqua l’âme de James Bond, le glissant dans des bottes poussiéreuses, un brin d’absinthe entre les lèvres. Le résultat ? Une fresque folle, picaresque, exubérante, où l’on croise le nain machiavélique Dr Miguelito Loveless (incarné par l’inoubliable Michael Dunn), ses androïdes ricanants, ses machines infernales... et ses rêves de domination démesurés, aussi fous que poétiques.
Des figures mythiques à l’écran
- 👔 Robert Conrad, inoubliable James West, cascadeur de son propre destin, séducteur à la cravate serrée et aux poings toujours prêts.

Une alchimie inégalée, un succès transgénérationnel
📺 La série, diffusée aux États-Unis entre 1965 et 1969 sur CBS, fit des étincelles en France dès 1967 via l’ORTF, avant de briller de nouveau dans La Une est à vous et plus tard sur M6. Et même des décennies plus tard, elle conserve ce parfum d’interdit sucré, cette essence rare des chefs-d’œuvre dont on sait, au premier regard qu’ils sont irremplaçables.
🔁 Les Mystères de l’Ouest offre une galerie de symboles, une ode baroque aux marges de l’histoire où chaque épisode se savoure comme un conte cruel pour adultes en quête de mystère. On y croise d’anciennes gloires, des actrices sublimes et des seconds rôles affamés de légende : Richard Kiel, Phoebe Dorin, Judith McConnell, Red West...
Un héritage jamais éteint
💿 De nombreux passionnés conservent pieusement les saisons en DVD, s’émerveillant encore devant les acrobaties de Conrad et les trouvailles scénaristiques des auteurs. Une série comète, disaient certains. Une étoile filante dont le passage fut bref mais incandescent, et dont la trace, ineffaçable, illumine encore les cœurs des nostalgiques... et les nouveaux curieux.
